Living Zero-waste: 2-ingredient Homemade Organic Face and Body Moisturizer

For weeks, I scored Youtube for moisturizer and body butter recipes, but I found out that recipes for this product is actually difficult to do because there are many processes to execute and the ingredients were hard to find here in my location (Cebu City.) Fortunately, I found one recipe that only requires 2 ingredients and is absolutely easy to make! I’m paying it forward by sharing it you!

This recipe is from a Youtuber that goes by the name Semitropical. Shoutout to that amazing girl! Checkout her video for this moisturizer here.

I absolutely love this moisturizer that I really can’t wait to share this with you all. Let’s get it on!

Recipe Ingredients

You will need:

  • 1/2 cup of raw unrefined Shea Butter
  • 1/4 cup of Coconut Oil
  • Few drops of any Essential Oil (Optional only)

  1. Put the 1/2 cup of Shea Butter to the mixing bowl.
  2. Add the 1/4 cup of Coconut Oil.
  3. Mix them well together manually or by using a Blender. Check out the picture below for reference.
  4. When they are finally well-mixed, add your drops of any Essential Oil. This is just optional, though.
  5. Mix them all well again. That’s it!

Where to Buy the Ingredients?

Don’t worry fellow Cebuanos and Cebuanas, I will help you with where to buy these things. 😉

  • Coconut Oil
This is pretty easy to find but I got my 250ml at Colonnade Mall for only Php 171.00. That’s the cheapest price I saw around Cebu City.
  • Shea Butter
This is very hard to find because this is usually imported from Africa. I checked all the Supermarkets in Cebu City but nay. I just found mine online and here are 2 sellers that sell Shea Butter for cheap prices:

    • Shopee Seller essentialoilbasicneeds: 100 grams for Php 200
      * Manila-based
    • OLX Seller Jim2Davis: 50 grams for Php 175
      * Cebu-based

  • It is best to put the product inside the refrigerator because the ingredients tend to separate if exposed to a warm temperature.
  • If it is unavoidable to expose the product to a warm temperature, make sure to just use a stick or anything to mix the ingredients together every before use.
  • This moisturizer is only good for dry skin. If you don’t have dry skin, maybe you should look for other moisturizers.
  • This moisturizer can be used in the face as well if your skin in the face is dry.
  • It is better to use blender instead of just manually mixing the ingredients.

  • Package-free
  • Cost-effective (see below)
  • Very concentrated, thus, little amount comes a very long way.
  • Shea Butter has a natural SPF6, thus, this cream can be used as a day cream.
  • Very hydrating for the skin and is very good for people with dry skin.
  • Can be used both as a face and body cream.
  • Luxurious product and non-toxic

  • Needs to be refrigerated because ingredients tend to separate when exposed to warm temperature
  • Only good for dry skin. For those who have oily or combination skin, make sure to use other moisturizers
  • Shea Butter is expensive and is very difficult to find because it is imported

Is it cost-effective?

Yes! Absolutely. Why? That’s because before, I normally spend around Php 555 every month since my Day Cream costs around Php 185 per month and my Body Lotion costs around Php 360 per month. But now, with this recipe, I only get to spend around Php 238 per month because the Coconut Oil only costs me around Php 38 per month and the Shea Butter only costs me around Php 200. One creation of this recipe will last around 1 month if used wisely. How cool is that?

I actually have a very dry body skin that is why I absolutely love this product. Aside from the fact that it is very effective in hydrating my skin, it also smells very good. I actually didn’t put any Essential Oils to my mix because I love the raw smell of Shea Butter.

Unfortunately, my face has a combination skin, not a dry skin. I would probably look for a different recipe for my face cream that would fit my combination skin. Aside from that, I absolutely love everything about this simple recipe. You should try it!

I hope you enjoy your cost-effective zero-waste moisturizer!
Please don’t forget to share your experience with this product on the comment section! I hope to hear your stories. If you have questions or suggestions, I would gladly read and answer them!

Thank you for reading,
D. M. P.
